A Restful Weekend.

On Thursday night we arrived in Haymarket,Virginia, and my sister Kate drove down to meet us. She lives in Leesburg, a lovely little colonial town about 30 minutes from the farm/campground where we’re staying. We’ve been back and forth and driving around with her for the last few days…getting to know her little corner of Virginia.

Dozens of Civil War battles were fought within miles of Leesburg, including the Battle of Aldie. We drove there on Saturday to visit the Aldie Mill, a historic gristmill on the Little River. The mill has been restored to working conditions, and Eddy found the construction and engineering quite fascinating. There was also an art show in progress there and we encouraged Kate to submit some of her watercolors for the juried show next year.

In the afternoon we took a walk around the farm, down to the big fishing pond and into the barns. We picked wildflowers and made a little bouquet for La Casita. We prefer eating “at home” and Thursday night we had rack of lamb for dinner. Last night Eddy made grilled Maine lobster tails, which we had with frozen green beans from our vegetable garden.

We haven’t done a lot of sightseeing because the primary purpose of this journey is to see our families. It’s been lovely resting and relaxing in this green and serene valley and just hanging with my sis. Tomorrow we head for Knoxville, Tennesee where we’ll spend a week with Eddy’s sister and her family.
