Lana Loves Le Voyage!
Je adore le voyage! Oh! Perhaps you didn't know that we Basset Hounds are of French descent? Mais oui, bien sur!
Well, really, what's not to love about travel? Especially in a motorhome! The swaying, rolling motion and the drone of the diesel sends me right to sleep. Then, when we reach our destination, there are treats, fresh water and a walk through new sounds, sights and smells...très fascinante! And of course there's the endless round of parties, where the grill is always overloaded -- leaving us a bounty of scraps.
Perhaps I enjoy it more than the other girls because, years ago, I was a champion show dog. Trust me...compared to being schlepped here and there in a crate, then groomed and fussed over ad nauseum, only to be paraded around with a bunch of strangers...RV travel is divine!
I heard the humans talking about how well we did and their plans to take us to Puget Sound next summer to reunite with our breeder. Je ne peux pas attendre! (Translation: I can't wait!)
Au revoir!

Halfway Home
On Wednesday afternoon we were surprised and delighted to see Glenn and Isabella’s rig pull into the park, and very happy that we could spend a couple of days chatting, eating and drinking great wine together. Isabella is from Poland, so she and Eddie have a great time talking about favorite childhood foods and singing Polish songs (that typically happens after some great wine).
My favorite is their rendition of the Polish National Anthem (click here and make sure your speakers are on).
Today we pulled out of the park around 10 am, knowing that there were high-wind warnings in the desert. In Mojave we had an incident with one of the awnings and Eddie had to pull over and get out to check on it. He estimated the winds were about 75 mph. It was a bit hairy, but we limped into Bakersfield and are all settled down for the night.
Aside from that, our ride was pleasant. The desert floor is covered with tiny blooms and new baby tumbleweeds. We also saw lots of blooming Joshua Trees…very Dr. Seussian. There are some more desert photos at the end of the All Dogged Up photo album.
Tomorrow we will pack up early and try to get home by noon so we can unpack, set the girls free and enjoy a quiet weekend. It’s been a wonderful vacation and I am glad you’ve all enjoyed the “dog blog”. I think Lana will have something to say tomorrow :-)

Piper's Pet Peeves
Now they’re calling me Greta Garbo because I don’t want to come out of the coach. They KNOW I hate traveling and they must realize how much I miss my home. Sippie and Lana are perfectly happy lounging on the patio, but I only go out for walks. I must admit we’ve met some cute new dogs, there are lots of interesting new smells, and everyone thinks we’re adorable. Nevertheless, I want to go home.
Daddy feeds us the same food we have at home, but I am terribly constipated! I know its neurotic, but my entire system is whacked by travel. Mommy has been feeding us rice and that’s helped a bit, but I can’t wait to get home.
The other thing that annoys me is that stepstool we have to use to get in and out of the rig. The other girls don’t mind, but I am afraid I’ll get my toes caught in one of the slots. So I go up and down as little as I can, and just hope I don’t break a nail! You would think they could fix us up with a ramp. I mean, come on, look at these short legs! I will be so happy to get back to our pet door at home.
Boof!

Celebrating June’s Second Ace!
After a couple of years trying to master the very unforgiving golf course at this resort, June has transferred her enthusiasm for the golf course to the tennis court. She now takes lessons once a week and practices several times a week. Still, she went out after her 2-hour tennis lesson to play a round with her husband Tommy and me. She had a great session this morning on the court, and it seems she carried her eagle-eye coordination to the golf course.
At the third hole she drove the ball to the fringe, where it made a hop and rolled straight into the cup. She actually SAW this one, her second hole-in-one. I am thrilled that I was able to witness it, as was Tommy. I am sure he will have her second trophy made shortly, and I hope I can play this game as well as June when I’m 64!
For more photos of this moment, check out the last few photos on the All Dogged Up photo album.
Girls are doing well, although the resort folks asked us to take down our pet fence today...aaargh! RULES! No matter...they now know their territory and stay close to us when they are not on the leash.
After golf with Tommy and June this afternoon we visited our Morgan Hill neighbors, Don and Beverley, and had cocktails on the patio of their desert home at PGA West. Yummy poo poos, great conversation and spectacular views!
Then we came home and got acquainted with our new RV neighbors from Vallejo who have logged HUNDREDS of thousands of miles over the last few years. A few nights ago we hung out with a couple from Alaska who winter in Mexico, and exchanged email addresses, travel tips and experiences. I can see how this lifestyle could open a lot of doors to new friendships and adventures!
Hasta pronto!

Greetings from the Desert!
We broke up our trip by spending the first night in Bakersfield…just 4 hours from home...and the girls were traveling troupers. Piper claimed the sofa, dug in her paws and stared stone-faced at the highway the entire time. Lana sacked out and slept through the journey. Sippie lay down under my feet with her head under the chair and pretended it wasn’t happening.
They have adapted remarkably well. We arrived at Outdoor Resorts on Sunday afternoon and Eddie set up their “pen” outside the coach, so they can go in and out as they please…though they love their new beds and spend most of their time snuggled down. We are also taking long walks around the resort. The majority of the folks here travel with dogs, but few have THREE big dogs, so they inspire lots of smiles and conversation.
The weather is beautiful and we have a gorgeous view of the golf course and waterways. I am working for a few hours every morning while Eddie does errands and coach maintenance. We have been hanging out with friends Tommy & June at their new “improved” lot on the water, golfing, swimming and just relaxing. I’ve taken a few photos and they are posted on the new album at right…titled All Dogged Up. To view large photos choose the slideshow option.
