Halfway Home

On Wednesday afternoon we were surprised and delighted to see Glenn and Isabella’s rig pull into the park, and very happy that we could spend a couple of days chatting, eating and drinking great wine together. Isabella is from Poland, so she and Eddie have a great time talking about favorite childhood foods and singing Polish songs (that typically happens after some great wine).
My favorite is their rendition of the Polish National Anthem (click here and make sure your speakers are on).

Today we pulled out of the park around 10 am, knowing that there were high-wind warnings in the desert. In Mojave we had an incident with one of the awnings and Eddie had to pull over and get out to check on it. He estimated the winds were about 75 mph. It was a bit hairy, but we limped into Bakersfield and are all settled down for the night.

Aside from that, our ride was pleasant. The desert floor is covered with tiny blooms and new baby tumbleweeds. We also saw lots of blooming Joshua Trees…very Dr. Seussian. There are some more desert photos at the end of the All Dogged Up photo album.

Tomorrow we will pack up early and try to get home by noon so we can unpack, set the girls free and enjoy a quiet weekend. It’s been a wonderful vacation and I am glad you’ve all enjoyed the “dog blog”. I think Lana will have something to say tomorrow :-)

You went through the Mojave without visiting Borrego Springs near the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the Salton Sea. ... ? I hope not. Next time check this out: http://www.infohub.com/Lodgings/lodging_ppl/236.html

Back in the 70s I One of my favorite girlfriends invited me to join a camping trip with her and her Dad at Borrego Springs ... another friend and I got stoned on the drive from LA and arrived at the Salton Sea - a very surreal place even when not in an altered state. From there, we made our way into the desert based on a verbal map to our girlfriend's campsite. The directions were clear - but her description of the campsite was not. We drove into a nudist version of the Burning Man Festival, fully high and completely surprised at the number of RVs occupied by naked people. Turns out my girlfriend's dad is a nudist.

It was weird but turned out to be a lot of fun - I'm a gal from Montana and just can't go into the nekkid thing, but the hot springs are great. Hiking is also good. There are some odd geological features there - but you might be distracted by hikers naked between their hat and shoes. - thats a vision you wont forget :O
